چکیده

Although earthquakes happen frequently in many parts of the world, any occurrence of a moderate to large event is sudden and unexpected. Thus, the earthquake process can be interesting and even frightening to people. Most earthquakes are associated with natural, dynamic processes that shape Earth’s landscape. The vast majority of earthquakes are caused by sudden slip along faults, resulting in seismic waves that shake the ground, often with suffi cient force to damage structures or trigger other events, such as landslides. When signifi cant earthquakes occur anywhere in the world, such as the December 2004 tsunami-generating event in Indonesia that killed more than 200,000 people, or the October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan that killed more than 70,000 people, emergency response and relief efforts come from around the globe, and there is renewed interest in understanding the causes and in mitigating the devastating effects of earthquakes. Earthquakes can be signifi cant hazards, as evidenced by occasional damaging and deadly events. Individuals, governments, and organizations can respond to the hazard by understanding the probability and the likely effects of signifi cant events; preparing emergency response plans; enhancing public knowledge about what to do in case of an earthquake; and taking specifi c steps (such as reinforcing critical or weak structures) to reduce the risk of earthquakes.

Monitoring tectonic activity in tunnel walls with radar interferometry: a case study of tunnels of Hormozgan Province, Iran

Communication and transportation networks are among the most important infrastructures critically involved in the development of different countries. The structural and tectonic position of Iran causes significant damage to its communication networks every year. Therefore, it is essential to adopt an integrated and flexible approach for assessing seismic risk in terms of available indicators. T...

Proposing an Intelligent Monitoring System for Early Prediction of Need for Intubation among COVID-19 Hospitalized Patients

Introduction: Predicting acute respiratory insufficiency due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can diminish the severe complications and mortality associated with the disease. This study aimed to develop an intelligent system based on machine learning (ML) models for frontline clinicians to effectively triage high-risk patients and prioritize who needs mechanical intubation (MI). Material...

Ng GSK Medicine: Fluticasone propionate/salmeterol, fluticasone propionate/salmeterol/norflurane

Rationale: Monitoring was required for the introduction of non-chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellants in metered dose inhalers (MDIs) to ensure that there were no unexpected adverse events due to the new products. A postmarketing observational study was conducted to evaluate the introduction of the MDI Seretide Evohaler TM (hydrofluoroalkane-134a inhaler containing salmeterol and fluticasone prop...

Sensitivity analysis of time lapse gravity for monitoring fluid saturation changes in a giant multi-phase gas reservoir located in south of Iran

The time lapse gravity method is a widely used technique to monitor the subsurface density changes in time and space. In hydrocarbon reservoirs, the density variations are due to different factors, such as: substitution of fluids with high density contrast, water influx, gas injection, and the variation in reservoir geomechanical behavior. Considering the monitoring of saturation changes in the...
